The decision to remove the tax was taken by the Tidö government and means immediate price reductions at several of the country's large food chains.
Coop announces in a press release that the price of their plastic bags will be reduced from SEK 6.95 to SEK 3.95. At the same time, they urge their customers to reuse the bags to reduce the environmental impact.
– Even though plastic carrier bags are now becoming cheaper, we urge our customers to continue using their bags many times, says Mattis Bergquist, sustainability manager at Coop, in a press release.
Lidl also lowers the price of its bags from SEK 6.50 to SEK 3.90, and Willys follows suit with a reduction of SEK 3, which means that their bags also cost SEK 3.90.< /p>
At Ica and Hemköp, the price reduction will vary depending on the store, as the merchants decide the price themselves.
– Since we have free pricing, I cannot answer how these merchants will price their bags, it can vary from store to store, says Jenny Pedersén, communications manager at Hemköp, to SVT.
