Last winter, the Defense Material Agency, FMV, was commissioned by the Swedish Armed Forces to buy new skis for the army as quickly as possible. The skis are manufactured by Finnish KSF Sport Oy and planned delivery to the Armed Forces is during the winter of 2024–2025.
A total of 5,000 pairs of skis with associated equipment are purchased.
When the new skis have been purchased longevity and maintenance requirements were important criteria in the selection. They are weed-free to minimize the need for maintenance. Another important point is how the skis behave depending on how much the soldier weighs and how much equipment or pack the soldier carries.
– Technically speaking, we see that the White Lightning, which is the Armed Forces' current ski system, is a robust and simple product that meets most needs. Many in the Swedish Armed Forces appreciate the White Lightning even though it has many years behind it, says Linnea Andersson, chief personal equipment engineer within FMV's logistics business area, in a statement.
The classic “White Lightning” will continue be used for many more years.
In addition to skis, the agreement now signed also includes poles from Peltonen and Nordigrip bindings that fit the boots of the Armed Forces. The task of buying in new skis was given to FMV last winter.
