According to Rasmus Elfström, union chairman for Center students, it is time for a new political approach.
– The Center Party must be able to have the courage to face all parties in talks and negotiations, says Elfström, and adds that even if SD is not like other parties, should C respect the parliamentary system, he tells DN.
Elfström sees an open stance towards all Riksdag parties as an opportunity to focus more on substantive politics than prime ministerial elections, a line he thinks the Center Party needs to reconsider.
The Center Party's party leader, Muharrem Demirok, however, dismisses Center Students' proposal and emphasized that C will not cooperate with the SD or enter into a government cooperation with the Left Party. Demirok writes in a comment to DN that the differences in politics and values compared to SD are too great:
“We will never become a fifth Tidö party, and we will never open the door to influence for the Sweden Democrats in a government constellation . The differences in policy as well as values are too great. It is a line that has broad roots in the party. It is still unthinkable for the Center Party to be in government with the Left Party.”
