Tommy Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, admitted to violating a 2021 court order on 10 occasions by spreading false allegations against a Syrian immigrant, according to Yahoo News.
The British government accused Robinson of “defying the court” and “undermining the rule of law” ” – including by publishing a film about himself entitled Silenced which contained the alleged defamation.
Robinson's lawyers instead claimed that the process against the 41-year-old is politically motivated.
The judge struck but that the crimes were not “accidental, careless or merely negligent” and added that “it is in the interest of the whole community that court orders are followed”.
When the sentence was read, Robinson, dressed in a gray suit and white shirt, stood and looked up at his supporters and shrugged, according to Yahoo News. Several dozen of Robinson's supporters filled the audience gallery and also gathered outside the court on Monday.
