Mikael Frisell, who most recently came from a managerial role at the Defense Materiel Works, will take up the post on 1 November.
– I am of course looking forward to this and it is with great humility that I take on the role , says Mikael Frisell about his new assignment, he tells SVT Nyheter.
He replaces Charlotte Petri Gornitzka, who is moving on to a new role as governor of Gotland.
The government describes the name change as a way to focus more on civil defense in line with the increased investment in total defence. According to Carl-Oskar Bohlin (M), Minister for Civil Defence, the purpose is to “clarify and highlight the dimensioned task for Swedish preparedness – to be able to handle the demands of war”.
However, the authority will continue to handle crises in peacetime, but with an increased focus on war preparedness.
