SEK 2,000 in fines for activists who disrupted the Vasaloppet

Law & Right. Two men in their 50s have been sentenced to daily fines of 2,000 kroner each for violating the public order law after running onto the track during this year's Vasalopp.

The incident occurred about a kilometer before the finish, just as the winner Torleif Syrstad passed.

Officials and security guards quickly managed to remove the men before they could seriously disrupt the race.

The men acknowledged the incident but claimed that they were acting “as a precaution” and that it was necessary to disrupt the Vasaloppet to save the climate. However, the district court rejects this argument and states that their actions did not meet the requirements for emergency protection.

The environmental organization Restore Wetlands took responsibility for the action.
