Foreign. The Israeli military says it has killed Hashem Safieddine, who was slated to become Hezbollah's new leader, in an airstrike earlier this month.

The attack took place about three weeks ago in al-Dahiya – an area of Beirut, where Ali Hussein Hazima, head of Hezbollah's intelligence unit, also was killed.
“Over 25 Hezbollah terrorists were inside Hezbollah's intelligence headquarters, including Bilal Saib Aish, who was responsible for aerial intelligence gathering in Syria,” the Israeli military said in a statement.
p>Safieddine was the cousin of Hezbollah's top leader, Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed in September.
Hezbollah has yet to comment on the IDF statement.
