Domestic. The government and the Sweden Democrats propose that it should be possible to build 1.5-storey villas without planning permission, so-called Sverigehus, in an attempt to lower construction costs and increase house building. Ulf Kristersson (M) in the government statement in September, but the proposal has not received much attention.

Mikael Eskilandersson, housing policy spokesperson for SD, believes that the proposal would make the construction process more efficient.

– By produce a house that is only assessed in one place instead of by 290 municipalities and thousands of officials, it will be much more efficient for those who are building houses, he tells SVT Nyheter.

But the proposal has met with resistance from both architects and the opposition, who question the standardization and its impact on different parts of the country.

– All parties are working to remove unnecessary regulatory hassle, but this is not a proposal that will solve the housing crisis we see today , says Katarina Luhr (MP), housing policy spokesperson, to SVT.

Sverigehuset is inspired by the government's so-called owner-occupied housing movement in the 1930s and 1940s in particular.
