Caroline von Seth, president of CUF, believes that the Left Party has a “genuine problem with structural anti-Semitism”, which according to her makes it impossible to cooperate with the party, either actively or passively.
She emphasizes that this is a “red line” for CUF.
– This is such a clear red line for me and Cuf that we are not prepared to either compromise or support a government that is in cahoots with a party that has a problem with racism, regardless whether it is V or SD, says Caroline von Seth to Expressen.
The background to the demand is that several cases of alleged anti-Semitism within the Left Party have been noticed recently. Two people have left the party and further investigations are underway. Despite the fact that the leader of the Left Party, Nooshi Dadgostar, has distanced himself from anti-Semitic statements, Caroline von Seth believes that the party has not done enough to handle the problem internally.
CUF's chairman is also supported by the leader of the Center Party, Muharrem Demirok, who in a written statement criticizes the Left Party's slow action on the matter. He describes Dadgostar's late reactions as “incomprehensible and unacceptable” and questions how any “responsible party could cooperate with the Left Party in a government when these kinds of views are expressed”.
