Norwegian security police recently raised the terror threat level in Norway from medium to high. The terrorist threat against the country is now graded as a four on a five-point scale.
The Norwegian police are normally unarmed, but as a result of the increase in the threat level, the police have decided to arm the police nationally.
On October 11, the Swedish police's national operational department, Noa, decided on a joint effort within the framework of the Prüm council decision. The decision means, among other things, that the Swedish police who work in the border area are given full police powers in Norway during the time that the decision applies. borders. For cross-border cooperation, the new decision means, for example, that Norwegian and Swedish police will be able to patrol together and can operate on both sides of the border, in connection with efforts against gang-related crime and other border-related crime.
– Already today we have a deep cooperation with Norway, for example by sharing intelligence information. We also carry out planned operational efforts together. Norwegian police are usually unarmed but have weapons in their vehicles which they can, by special decision, take out. They can also make a general armament decision, for example based on a changed security situation, and that is what has happened now in Norway. Swedish police always work armed. The decision that has now been made gives us opportunities to carry out joint efforts to combat gang crime on the Norwegian side as well, says Jonas Wendel, Arvika's local police area manager, on the police's website.
