According to US sources, the amount aid reaching Gaza has decreased drastically in recent months, and the US is now demanding that Israel take concrete steps to facilitate aid.

In a joint letter from US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and Secretary of State Antony Blinken to Israel's Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant and Strategy Minister Ron Dermer emphasize to the US that continued arms aid is dependent on compliance with international law and humanitarian norms.

Since the war between Israel and Hamas broke out a year ago, the US has delivered close to 18 billion dollars in military aid to Israel.

US concern about the humanitarian situation in Gaza has increased as the amount of aid reaching the area in September was the lowest in a year. Although some types of “defensive” weapons systems, such as THAAD, may be exempted from these restrictions, Israel is facing increased pressure from Washington to ensure that aid arrives.

This comes as the US urges Israel to focus on diplomatic solutions to avoid a wider conflict with Hezbollah in Lebanon.
