In September, close to 145,000 people had been unemployed for a year or longer. Compared to the same time last year, the number has increased by approximately 7,000.

– We see that more people are unemployed for longer and their situation is difficult, not least for people with a short education. In order to avoid unemployment taking hold, more people need to take part in training efforts, says Lars Lindvall, head of forecasting at Arbetsförmedlingen, in a statement.

A total of roughly 360,000 people were registered as unemployed in September. That is nearly 28,000 more than a year ago and corresponds to unemployment of a total of 6.8 percent.
