Even more striking is that second-generation non-Western immigrants, who make up only 2.2 percent of the population, are responsible for 15.6 percent of violent crimes and 8.1 percent of rapes.

Overall, the statistics show that 29.6 percent of violent crimes and 32.4 percent of rapes are committed by people with a non-Western background, despite the fact that they make up only 10.6 percent of the population.

Denmark's Minister of Justice, Peter Hummelgaard, reacts strongly to the figures, calling them “deeply disturbing”. He stressed that Denmark must take strong measures against this unacceptable behavior.

– It enrages me that people we invited to our country repay our hospitality by committing rape and serious violent crimes that destroy other people's lives here in Denmark, Hummelgaard told the newspaper Berlingske.

Figures from Denmark's penitentiary also show that 27.6 percent of inmates are first- or second-generation immigrants. Together with foreign nationals, which include, among other things, illegal immigrants and tourists, these groups make up over 31 percent of the prison population – an increase compared to 26.8 percent ten years ago.

To relieve Denmark's overcrowded prisons, signed the country signed an agreement with Kosovo in 2021 to rent 300 prison places there, but so far no Danish prisoner has been sent there.
