In a post on X on Monday, Maria Malmer Stenergard gives an update on the consular situation for Swedish citizens in Lebanon.

< p>Despite the continued unrest in the region, the demand for consular assistance has decreased sharply – both at the Swedish embassy in Beirut and via the Foreign Ministry's consular emergency.

“The pressure has now, from a low level, decreased further and it concerns now about a few calls per day”, writes the minister and clarifies:

“Calls also do not necessarily mean that people are asking for help, it could for example be relatives asking for information.”

According to Maria Malmer Stenergard, the government has informed in various ways both how serious the situation is and what consular possibilities are available.

“At the latest last week, we informed about the help that is available, by sending to the Swedish List. Despite that, the pressure is therefore very low. There are now more and more available seats on commercial flights,” she writes.

In light of the limited demand for consular support, Sweden is now reducing the staffing of extra staff at the embassy, according to the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
