Every year passes around SEK 6 million from members' union fees to the Social Democrats, despite the majority of LO members voting for other parties.

For example, SD has 27.5 percent support among LO workers.

Lindholm describes the support as “possibly outdated” and says it may be time to review the arrangement.

– Many members are upset that their money goes to a party they don't vote for, he says in a interview with SVT.

In the last parliamentary election in 2022, LO also invested SEK 50 million in campaigns to support the Social Democrats. But this money comes from LO's own funds, not directly from members' fees, which Lindholm believes is a less sensitive issue.

The question of the trade union's financial support to the Social Democrats has long been debated, especially among members who do not identifies with the party.

Tobias Baudin, the Social Democrats' party secretary and responsible for S's controversial lottery sales, among other things, emphasizes the importance of strengthening ties with LO at a time when the labor movement is facing major challenges.

– We must stand united to be able to influence the workers' conditions in Sweden, says Baudin to SVT.
