– I thought at first it was a toy, but then it moved, Sofia tells the BBC.
Sofia, who studies in Bristol, had ordered a pair of boots for her student room.
When she opened the package, she noticed something moving , and panic quickly erupted. Her roommates rushed to her rescue after hearing her screams.
– To be honest, at first we were going to kill it, but we decided to catch it instead and put it in a Tupperware, says roommate Phoebe Hunt.
They used kitchen tongs to carefully move the scorpion to a bathtub and then contacted the National Center for Reptile Welfare (NCRW). The association identified the scorpion as a Chinese species, Olivierus martensii.
According to NCRW's Chris Newman, a bite from this species could be potentially life-threatening, but for the average adult, it would primarily be a very unpleasant experience.

Shein has responded by launching an internal investigation and says its packaging processes have been followed according to current standards. How it all happened is unclear, according to Shein.
