Foreign. Israel has notified the US that it is planning a «limited» ground operation in Lebanon, according to information provided to the Washington Post.

The ground operation, which may come to be launched shortly, should be smaller than Israel's last war against Hezbollah in 2006.
The goal of the operation is said to be to eliminate militant infrastructure along the border that is considered to threaten Israeli communities in northern Israel. An anonymous US official said this has been the subject of talks between the two countries.
On Monday, Israeli forces were already carrying out limited raids in Lebanon, according to sources familiar with the operation.
According to Lebanese authorities say more than 1,000 people have been killed in the past two weeks of attacks by Israel, and up to a million people may now be displaced.
