Hezbollah has not confirmed the information, but a source with insight told AFP, quoted by the BBC, that contact with Nasrallah «has been broken» since last night.
The IDF writes in its press release that Nasrallah died in yesterday's attack on several buildings in the southern parts of Beirut.
It was at the time that Israel razed large residential areas to the ground in central parts of the Lebanese capital.
Hassan Nasrallah was born in 1960 on the outskirts of Beirut and since 1975 has been involved in various Iran-backed militias. In 1985, Hezbollah was founded out of one of the largest militias.
At the time of his death, Nasrallah was one of the most famous and influential figures in the Middle East. He played a key role in transforming Hezbollah into the political and military force it is today and is still revered by the group's followers.
Under Hassan Nasrallah's leadership, Hezbollah has helped train fighters from the Palestinian armed group Hamas, as well as trained militias in Iraq and Yemen. The organization has also acquired missiles and rockets from Iran for use against Israel.
