The administration in Gothenburg municipality pointed out that the decision was not legal and the chairman of the decision-making board , Eva Ternegren (MP), left her seat on the committee for the same reason.
The red-green majority, however, broke the law and introduced a municipal boycott against Israel on their own initiative. Something that the administrative court pointed out that a municipality is not allowed to do, as matters of foreign policy fall under the government and not individual municipalities.
The Israel-friendly Liberals filed a police report about misconduct and it has now led to a preliminary investigation initiated.
– I think there is reason to assume that a crime has been committed and then we need to dig a little more into this, says Chamber prosecutor James von Reis to DN.
