The suspect, Ryan Wesley Routh, has previously been involved in political discussions and liberal activism.

“I AM WILLING TO FLY TO KRAKOW AND GO TO THE BORDER OF UKRAINE TO VOLUNTEER AND FIGHT AND DIE…Can I be the example We must win,” he said in a X post in March 2022.

He went on the attack with an AK-47 Kalashnikov at Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago golf course. After five holes were played, a lifeguard saw Routh pull out an automatic weapon at one of the course fences, and the lifeguards fired at the 58-year-old, throwing himself over Donald Trump for cover.

Ryan Wesley Routh was hiding by a fence at the east end of the golf course – a paltry 400 meters from the President. How he found out that Trump was going to play golf on the day in question is shrouded in obscurity. He was arrested fleeing the area on a highway in Florida, writes the New York Post.

Over the years, the man has expressed his support for Ukraine and donated money to several Democratic presidential candidates.

He tried also recruiting Afghan soldiers to the war by urging them to send their passports to join the Ukrainian army.

In the past, the man has been accused of possessing a weapon of mass destruction and has had several clashes with the police, where he on one occasion barricaded himself in his home for several hours before he could be arrested.

Although the 58-year-old man describes himself as a committed and passionate person in the fight for democracy, he is now facing serious charges of have tried to destroy democracy itself.
