A manager of the sale of the Social Democrats' lottery tickets has been revealed to be wanted in Sweden to serve a prison sentence.
The man, who worked at the sales company Effective Communications in Barcelona, led the sale of lottery tickets aimed at elderly people, often using misleading methods.
Despite the fact that the man was wanted for crimes related to drunk driving and drug crimes, as well as having connections to Malmö's gang environment, he managed to avoid prison for several years.
The company's CEO, Rickard Blom, claims that the man's background was unknown at the time of employment. Later, however, it became known.
Blom also emphasized that the man was appreciated among his colleagues and advanced within the company. At the same time, several employees have testified about the man's leading role and responsibility for the controversial sales methods.
The Social Democrats' party secretary Tobias Baudin has expressed disappointment at the way the lottery business has been handled during a press conference.
The party has decided to stop using external sales companies and has called on the management of Kombispel, the company behind the lotteries, to resign.
The revelation has provoked strong reactions and been widely criticized, including by Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, who compared the Social Democrats' lottery operations to how criminal gangs operate.
However, the Social Democrats have not yet given any further comments regarding the man's role in the business.
Party secretary Tobias Baudin has, however, promised that the party will stop selling lottery tickets by telephone.
The A lotteries were founded in 1956 and annually bring in large sums of money for the Social Democrats' party coffers. Last year, lottery operations gave SEK 9.8 million to the S party fund and SEK 6.3 million to the youth association SSU.
