The exercise, which involves 16 countries, focuses on medical care and evacuation of the injured from Finland and the Baltics.
The scenario is based on a third world war situation where Russia is the opponent, something that is recurring in today's NATO exercises, according to SR .
Sveriges Radio has spoken to Taha Alexandersson at the National Board of Health and Welfare, who emphasizes that a “lesson” from the exercise is that Sweden needs to acquire more medical transport before the third world war begins.
The exercise is carried out in collaboration with Sweden's regions and aims to identify possible shortcomings in the country's healthcare preparedness.
This is to be able to strengthen capacity in the event of a possible crisis.
At the same time, Sweden's membership in NATO has raised questions about the country's sovereignty and the relationship with the United States, especially after a comprehensive agreement was signed between the two countries where the United States gets free access to Swedish military bases and American personnel enjoy rights that are usually only achieved during occupation.
Critics believe that Sweden's independence has decreased as a result of the close cooperation, while proponents emphasize that the cooperation means an increased opportunity to maintain a confrontational line towards Russia.
