The number of evictions has increased. During the first half of the year, the Kronofogden carried out 1,579 evictions.
188 of these involved families with children, compared to 167 in the same period last year. A total of 342 children were affected.
— Every child who is affected by an eviction is in a very vulnerable situation, regardless of whether they live full-time or part-time with the parent who is being evicted, says Davor Vuleta, private financial spokesperson at The Bailiff, in a press release.
The total number of evictions decreased until 2017, but then the trend in the housing market began to reverse and the curve turned up.
Since 2018, the number of evictions has increased by 37 percent in Sweden. In the first half of 2024, the number of evictions increased by 10 percent compared to the same period last year. In two years, the increase is 26 percent.
— The financial pressure on households is still great. We know that the vast majority prioritize paying their rent, but the persistently high cost situation means that more people risk falling behind with their payments, says Davor Vuleta.
