The proposal comes after what the party describes as an acute national crisis where more and more young people are drawn into serious crime.
The party leader Magdalena Andersson and Ardalan Shekarabi presented the proposal at a press conference and emphasized that society must act to protect children from being exploited in crime.
Current legislation does not allow children under the age of 15 to be the subject of wiretapping, but the Social Democrats want change this to prevent young people from being exploited in criminal networks.
— It's about protecting the children's lives, says Andersson and admits that the party previously protected children's privacy, but that the current development requires other measures.

In addition to increased wiretapping, the party also wants to introduce youth crime boards, where young people together with their parents meet a judge in order to break the criminal path early.
— The Swedish state must take a clearer responsibility for young people on the way into crime, says Shekarabi.
The proposals will be presented as a committee initiative when the Riksdag reopens next week. The Social Democrats hope for a quick introduction.
