Increased spread of covid-19

Domestic. The spread of covid-19 has increased since the beginning of summer, from low levels. In connection with the return to work and school, the spread of infection may increase further, according to the Public Health Agency.

Since the end of June, the spread of covid-19 has increased in Sweden and several other European countries.

The number of inpatients has increased during the same period. Since mid-July, the number of deaths from covid-19 has also increased. A smaller number of patients are treated in the intensive care unit.

Overall, the spread of covid-19 is estimated to be at a higher level than in the spring and early summer, but still low compared to the winter peak in November–December 2023.

Before the autumn and winter season, the Public Health Authority recommends vaccination against covid-19 to people aged 65 and over and to people aged 18–64 with an increased risk of serious covid-19. The authority recommends that the vaccination efforts against covid-19 and influenza take place in a coordinated manner, starting in mid-October.
