Fria Tider reported in April 2021 that the announcement that SVT would “modernize” Astrid Lindgren's beloved “Vi på Saltkråkan” worried viewers, who feared that the whole thing would result in a PK spectacle.

– We want to make it an even stronger classic for future generations, SVT's CEO Hanna Stjärne promised at the time.

Today, the first images from the new series, which has premiered, were released 2025 – and many now seem to believe that the concern was justified.

“Who's surprised? Where's Båtshen? The only one who gets to be white is Uncle Melker, because he's so clumsy,” writes a user on X.

“That will never be the Salt Crow, how can you destroy something so genuinely Swedish. I will never watch it, it's a mockery of the original. Shame on you, SVT,” writes another woman on the same platform.

Another woman notes : “Not my Salt Crow.”

The new series, which consists of six episodes, takes place in the present and offers an updated interpretation of Astrid Lindgren's story. The series is directed by Fredrik Edfeldt with a script by Karin Arrhenius.

– Being able to take part in managing and renewing the free and wonderful universe of the Salt Crow with all its motley characters has been incredibly fulfilling, Karin Arrhenius has previously said in a comment.

Already in May 2021, the actor Ulf Brunnberg warned about SVT's new recording.

– I call it PK, politically correct. It has nothing to do with the Salt Crow, said Ulf Brunnberg in “The Meeting” in SVT.

Louise Edlind Friberg, who played Malin in the original series, was however positive about the remake and hoped it would be smaller” blonde and blue-eyed” than the original.

– I think Saltkråkan can continue to be a community-creating image of Sweden, but one that is a little broadened. An image of Sweden that is not so blonde and blue-eyed, she said in SVT's Mötet.

Malin is played this time by Nora Rios, who is neither blonde nor blue-eyed but originates from South America.
