During the press conference on Wednesday, Teresa Carvalho (S), vice-chairman of the labor market committee, called on the government to take more measures against gang crime and the increasing recruitment of young people into criminal networks.
She presented two concrete proposals that the Social Democrats demand that the government implement immediately. One is that the brochure “Gang talk” should be sent out to all Swedish households with school-age children. The second requirement is that the police should visit schools to inform young people about the gangs' recruitment methods.
– We must increase public knowledge of what the consequences can be for those who are drawn into it. And young people must be warned about the gangs, in the same way we always warned about ugly old men, said Teresa Carvalho.
The press conference and the pamphlet demand on the government have been mocked healthily on social media – and even on the party-loyal S- newspaper Aftonbladet, one is skeptical. News columnist Oisin Cantwell describes the mood at Wednesday's press conference, in an article with the headline “Gang murders and S bets on leaflet”.
“Eight reporters with varying degrees of resignation pretended to take notes, the politician patted on,” he writes .
