Erika Bjerström tells the Journalist that the decision is partly motivated by the fact that she was subjected to “hate and threats”.

– Yes, I have to be honest and say that it is. As SVT's first global climate correspondent, there have been threats, hatred and drive in a way I had no idea when I took the assignment. Now I asked to leave that role, after four and a half years.

Erika Bjerström has had a number of different roles at SVT – including correspondent in Africa, the EU and the USA as well as program manager and editor for Aktuellt . She expresses a desire to be able to work more freely and immerse herself more in climate issues. She plans to continue working with climate journalism by writing a book and working on a documentary project.

SVT's program director Karin Ekman announces that the role of climate correspondent will not be recast, but that climate reporting will change in the future. In a blog post, she pays tribute to Erika Bjerström's strong commitment to the so-called climate.

Sveriges Radio announced earlier this year that they were abolishing their position as climate correspondent.
