Domestic. The ambulance took two hours when a 63-year-old woman called and reported extreme pain and anxiety. Once there, the paramedics did not take an EKG, and after getting to a medical center the woman later died of a heart attack.

According to IVO, which investigated the incident which occurred in 2021, the woman received insufficient care both when contacting SOS Alarm and when the ambulance was called. The fact that the paramedics did not discover that she had a heart attack, and that she did not receive that information herself, must have caused the death.

According to Ivo, the symptoms were in fact cause for “strong suspicion of a heart attack” and she should therefore have received the highest priority already on the first call, instead of having to wait two hours. Furthermore, the ambulance staff should have taken an EKG and given more information to doctors, according to IVO.

“Ivo assesses that the care providers SOS Alarm AB and Ambulancesjukvården i Storstockholm AB did not ensure that the patient was given good care during the emergency call on 12 March 2021”, states Ivo.
