A total of 61 people were on board and all have died, the airline Voepass states in a press release.

Films from the incident show how the plane lost lift and fell from a height of 4,000 meters in just two minutes.

Aviation expert Jan Ohlsson tells Aftonbladet that it is very unusual for this type of aircraft to suffer a stall, which usually occurs among smaller aircraft .

The causes can be many, from icing to pilot error or engine failure. Ohlsson also mentions that another aircraft en route to São Paulo reported ice on the side windows of the cabin, supporting the theory of icing as a possible factor.

The ATR-72 aircraft model, which has been in service for over 20 years and is popular among airlines in the Nordics and globally, is known as a reliable workhorse that has not been particularly affected by accidents.
