Deadly drug in Oxycontin cans

The Karlstad police have received information that the drug Metonitazen is being sold in fake Oxycontin cans on the illegal drug market in the city. Single tablets and tablet maps are also sold labeled as Oxycontin.

Oxycontin is a prescription and narcotic-classified “medicine” with a strong pain-relieving effect. The drug was launched by the infamous Sackler family and created the opioid epidemic in the United States that led to millions of deaths.

Metoniatazen is a fentanyl-like substance and a much stronger preparation than Oxycontin. The buyer lives in the belief that it is Oxycontin they have bought and can thus accidentally ingest Metonitazen. The risk of overdosing on Metoniatazen is great and can lead to respiratory effects with death as the worst outcome.

– We want to draw attention and warn the public about this as a preventive measure to reduce the risk of someone being affected. If you are a parent, we would like to urge you to talk to your children about the risks of using drugs, says Ulrika Sundström, local police area manager.
