Foreign. The Syrian population in Germany has increased dramatically since the asylum crisis in 2015, reaching at least 972,000 people by the end of 2023, according to new statistics.

The number means that almost 1 in 20 Syrians now lives in Germany, writes Remix News. In 2014, only 60,000 Syrians lived in Germany, which means that the population has increased 16-fold since then.
Despite promises of “integration” and profit in the long run, figures show that over half of the Syrians living in Germany, 513,534 people, live on benefits (bürgergeld). In addition, those who do not qualify for bürgergeld are supported through the Asylum Seekers Act, which guarantees allowances, housing and other benefits.
The costs of migrants have contributed to Germany's record high debt, and the government spent the equivalent of SEK 500 billion on direct migrant costs during 2023.
The Afghan population in Germany has also increased drastically, to 419,410 people in 2023. That is a sixfold increase since 2014. Almost half of these, 197,551 people, receive social benefits and the vast majority live on asylum seeker support. Afghans continue to arrive at a high rate, and the left-liberal government has even promised to actively fly in 10,000 additional Afghans into the country.
Afghans have one of the highest levels of crime in the country, and according to crime statistics five times more likely to commit crimes than native Germans. In some categories, such as sexual assault, they are 12.5 times more likely to commit crimes. Many of these crimes are committed by repeat offenders, and a third of suspected immigrants have previous convictions.
Many Syrians and Afghans who have been in the country longer will be granted German citizenship through a new law that comes into effect on Thursday. According to the new law, foreigners can become citizens already after five years in the country – in some cases only after three years.
Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad has expressed a wish that the Syrians who fled the country during it now in basically ended the war against IS and other jihadists, must return home. It is a call that no Western country that has received Syrians has heeded.
