Imane Khelif of Algeria is one of two men allowed to compete in boxing in the women's Olympics – despite that they failed gender tests and had both X and Y chromosomes.

Today he had to face Italian Angela Carini – but after less than a minute Carini signaled to the judge that she was giving up.

The Italian cried profusely in front of the camera after the match and the scenes are now upsetting many. However, her coach is being politically correct when commenting on the incident.

– She told me she didn't want to fight. I don't know exactly how it happened or why. I think she is a little affected by all the talk that has been about “she is a man, it is dangerous for you”, he told the media according to Expressen.

Imane Khelif left the place immediately after the match over, without answering any questions, according to the newspaper.

Criticism of the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) decision and accusations about Khelif's participation has been strong. However, the Algerian boxing federation COA has defended Khelif in a statement, condemning what they call “baseless propaganda” from “certain foreign media”.
