– I am worried about the signals coming from Trump and the Republicans, that the commitment to Ukraine does not seem to be as strong as desired. There is an isolationist tendency that risks spilling over into support for Ukraine, says Karlsson to Dagens Nyheter.

The liberal-minded SD top is also disappointed that Donald Trump, who is standing in the US presidential election, is “very unswedish in his way of being”.

When asked what it is that is “unswedish”, Mattias Karlsson answers:

– His boastfulness and arrogance.

However, he does not want to say outright that he supports leftist candidate Kamala Harris. In an interview with Svenska Dagbladet in February, however, Mattias Karlsson said that he would vote for Biden if he had a gun to his head.

SD's foreign policy spokesperson, Aron Emilsson, shares Karlsson's concerns and underlines the need for a ” reliable” American partner in supporting the war. He warns of spillover effects if the US and Europe cannot maintain their support.

Even the Christian Democrat Hans Eklind, who previously supported Trump, now expresses concern for Ukraine's future if the US reduces its involvement.
