The policeman Rouven L. was killed at the end of May by an Afghan Islamist who had lived illegally in Germany for eight years.
In a documentary from the German public service station Südwestrundfunk (SWR), Rouven's mother and sisters describe his concerns before the police operation.
Rouven L was aware of the dangers of monitoring the event in Mannheim, which was organized by the anti-Muslim group Pax Europa. He stated to his sister that he expected unrest, specifically mentioning that “young Arab men have a very short stubble” and are “quick to take to the knife”.
The policeman himself was not a supporter of Pax Europa, but must have been aware that the group's leader, Michael Stürzenberger, deliberately engages in provocations to create disorder.
Rouven's mother points out in the interview that the murder of her son highlights that Germany's migration policy may need to be reconsidered.
– It was important to me that people become aware that something is not right here in Germany, she says.
– Something has to change.< /p>
The family was allowed to be by Rouven's side all the time in the hospital, until his death. His sisters were always present.
German crime statistics show that foreigners account for an overwhelming proportion of violent crimes in the country. In 2023, a record high number of violent crimes was noted, and foreigners were responsible for 60 percent of these crimes and 41 percent of total crime.
This therefore applies to immigrants who have not yet obtained German citizenship – how big is the overrepresentation of immigrants largely obscured in German statistics.
