Markstridsuniform 24, MSU24, is a distinct field uniform and is intended for the Armed Forces' combat units.
Work on the new uniform system began in 2013 and is a collaboration between the four Nordic countries Norway, Finland, Denmark and Sweden. After weighing up the countries' needs, wishes and requirements, a joint specification was created. Sample collections were procured and field testing was carried out in all four countries. All resulting in a common uniform system where very few details differ between the countries. However, each country has its own camouflage pattern.
The Swedish uniform is under delivery from the supplier to FMV, which expects to deliver a first batch to the Armed Forces during the fall. The uniform system will then be gradually introduced to units. Starting at the turn of the year, a first allocation will take place in parts of the basic organization. In this first round, mainly employed personnel in troop service at a limited number of units will be assigned the new field uniform.
In order to prepare the introduction, the Chief of Logistics of the Armed Forces has appointed the army manager to lead a project group which, based on the conditions of each unit, shall regulate the introduction so that it is as smooth as possible. The project work will continue until a directive for introduction is established, which is planned to take place in the autumn.
Even if the new uniform is now gradually being introduced, the Armed Forces' existing uniform system, model 90, will for a long time be basic clothing for all personnel who do not act in a combat capacity, i.e. for everyone whose main job is in staffs and garrison administrations and the like.
