The project, codenamed “Strawberry”, aims to significantly improve the models' reasoning ability.
That way how Strawberry works is “a well-kept secret” even within OpenAI, the source told Reuters.
The source describes how Strawberry involves a “specialized method” for processing an AI model after it has been trained on large amounts of data. The goal is not only to enable the AI to generate answers to questions, but also to have sufficient planning capacity to conduct so-called “deep research”.
An internal document from OpenAI seen by Reuters describes how Strawberry can be used for research, but it is unclear when the technology will become available to the public. A spokesperson from OpenAI comments that the company strives for its AI models to see and understand the world more like humans do, but that it does not comment on the Strawberry project specifically.
