The municipality sold 29 residential plots for one crown per square meter to attract new residents, which received global attention.

– It has been an unmanageable situation, says Johan Månsson, chairman of the municipal board, to Expressen.

Since the campaign went viral, major international media, including CNN, have reported on the plots. The municipality's exchange and the brokerage firm were called by thousands of interested parties worldwide, from Europe to Australia and the USA.

Due to the enormous interest, the municipality has temporarily stopped sales until August 7 to catch up.

New requirements are also introduced to be able to say no to buyers in other EU countries; buyers must have a Swedish bank account. Something that is basically impossible for foreigners with normal financial assets to acquire today, due to the Money Laundering Act.

Götene is also considering adding more plots to the campaign to meet the great interest and attract even more residents.< /p>

– We have clearly put Götene on the world map, says Månsson.
