NATO source: Ukraine too corrupt to join

Foreign. Ukraine will not be able to join NATO – because the country is too corrupt. A source within the US State Department told The Telegraph.

– We must applaud Ukraine for the reforms they have implemented in the last two years, says the source but adds:

– We want to discuss what further steps need to be taken, and above all in anti-corruption work. It is a priority issue for many.

The news comes a week after the NATO summit in Washington D.C. and is described as a setback for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said last summer that Ukraine was then “closer to NATO than ever before”, but things have been slow on that matter.
