TwittraShare< p>Fria Tider reported this weekend that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán wants to create a new anti-immigration party group in the EU Parliament.

This is being done by the Hungarian government party Fidesz together with the Austrian Freedom Party (FPÖ) and former Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babi's party Ano.

AFD leader Alice Weidel opens up about her party joining Patriots of Europe, as the new group is to be called, adding the founding of the group is an “absolutely fantastic” development.< /p>

In an interview with Zeit Online, Alice Weidel says that while her party may not join the new group in the short term, “who knows what we will do in the medium and long term?”

She claims to be “full of admiration” for FPÖ leader Herbert Kickl and Orbán.

The AFD leader's comments come after Europe's patriots gained a new member, the Portuguese party Chega. To form an official grouping in the EU Parliament, however, members from three additional countries are required, according to the European Parliament's rules. If AFD were to join, members from two more countries would therefore be needed.

AFD is trying to form a new party group in the EU Parliament itself since the party was excluded from the group Identity and Democracy (ID) following a pressure campaign from Marine Le Pen's party National Assembly in France.
