Fully vaccinated child died of TBE

Domestic. A child in Uppsala died of TBE – despite full vaccination against the disease.

A child died last autumn at the Academic Hospital in Uppsala as a result of meningitis caused by TBE, reports P4 Uppland.

The radio has taken part in the hospital's investigation which shows that the child had received all the recommended doses of the vaccine specifically against TBE.

The child initially sought care in an emergency department with a headache as a symptom. After the examination, which included x-rays and did not reveal any serious problems, the child was sent home again.

The following day the child returned with seizures and was taken directly to the intensive care unit. Despite an emergency intervention, the child's life could not be saved.
