The Supreme Court of the United States has concluded that Donald Trump is covered by immunity for what he did as president.

According to the court, the president has absolute immunity from prosecution for the acts performed within the scope of the office. However, not for the actions he took as a private individual.

The HD decision was welcomed by Donald Trump himself.

“Great victory for our constitution and democracy. Proud to be American!” wrote Trump on Truth Social on Monday.

How this should be interpreted regarding, for example, Trump's actions in connection with the tumult at Congress on January 6, 2021, is up to the lower courts to deal with.

During the night Swedish time, President Joe Biden gave a televised speech in which he condemned the sentence. He said, among other things, that he agrees with Sonia Sotomayor, a leftist member of HD, in her assessment that “the president is now a king who is above the law”.
