TeamViewer has been hit by a cyber attack

TeamViewer was hit by a cyber attack on Wednesday. According to the company behind the software, it is an attack on the corporate environment. It is not yet clear what type of attack it is and which group is behind it.

Teamviewer reported on Wednesday that it discovered something striking in the corporate environment. The company then “immediately deployed its response team and took appropriate security measures.” Because the business environment is separate from the product and customer environments, the company says these were not affected by the attack. An investigation into the incident is still ongoing.

Although it is not yet known who is behind the attack, security experts suspect that the perpetrators have ties to the Russian hacker collective APT29, writes BleepingComputer. Security expert Jeffrey published part of a report from security company NCC Group on Mastodon, which mentioned the group's name. The warning was shared among experts affiliated with the Digital Trust Center of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate. Health-ISAC, a community for healthcare professionals in which information about threats is shared, is also talking about APT29.

APT29, also known as Nobelium or Midnight Blizzard, has carried out several attacks in recent years. For example, the collective hacked several European politicians and in 2020 attacked several health institutions in the US, the United Kingdom and Canada that were working on corona vaccines.
