Spotify fires person responsible for Belgian playlists

Spotify has fired the only person responsible for curating playlists of Belgian music at the company. Compiling playlists for the Belgian market is now done by people who also make playlists for other countries.

The dismissal happened in December last year, reports De Morgen. The Dutchman has worked for the Belgian market since 2018 and confirms that he has been fired from Spotify. The company itself does not comment on individual cases. Creating playlists per country can ensure attention, especially for smaller artists from a country and artists who only focus on their own country.

Spotify seems to focus more on personalized playlists such as Discover Weekly and Daily Mix and all other mixes that the streaming service prepares for users. There is also a beta for a chatbot that can create playlists based on text prompts.
