Valve releases its own game recorder that also works on Steam Deck

Valve has released its own native game recorder for Steam in beta. Users can therefore record and share gameplay, also from the Steam Deck. They can start recordings via a hotkey or let the recording run in the background.

With the Background Recording mode, gameplay is continuously saved to a preferred drive, Steam said on an information page. Users can indicate the maximum duration of a recording and the maximum size it can be. In addition, players can start and stop the recording manually via a hotkey.

During the recording, users also see the 'Steam Timeline', to which they can add markers. A marker indicates an interesting moment that users can find more easily after recording. Certain games can also do this automatically when relevant events occur in the game. Users can also choose which audio channels are included in the recording.

Users can then share recordings as MP4 with friends or on social media. It is also possible to send recordings from the Steam Deck to a PC or mobile device. The Game Recorder also works with any game, even if it is not on Steam. The only requirement is that the game supports the Steam Overlay.
