The students from TU Delft who wanted to set a new world record with their hydrogen car, just missed their goal. The intention was to drive as far as possible on one full tank.
The TU Delft hydrogen car received approval to go on public roads earlier this month. The plan was then to ride the route of the Frisian Eleven Cities Tour approximately ten times, about 2056 kilometers. The team estimated that this should be possible on one full tank. The current record on public roads with a full tank of hydrogen is 1,360 kilometers.
The students announced on Instagram that they were unable to achieve that goal. The car covered 1,273 kilometers on one full tank of 1.46 kilograms of hydrogen, which equates to six times the Eleven Cities Tour. However, that is not enough to break the world record. Still, the team says they are proud that they are the first student team to have built a hydrogen car that can go on public roads and have been able to cover such a distance.
