The government has decided that the Director General of the Public Health Agency, Karin Tegmark Wisell, will leave her current position and will instead have the position of “ambassador for global health” at the Government Office. At the same time, the head of the MSB may quit prematurely – and become governor.

– Today's appointment contributes to the government's ambition to gather strength and strengthen Sweden's role in the work on health issues. I welcome Karin Tegmark Wisell to the team and look forward to working together, says Aid and Foreign Trade Minister Johan Forssell in a statement.
He continues:
– Karin Tegmark Wisell has a great international commitment and we are happy that she will now be able to use her knowledge in a global context to contribute to the work of meeting the health threats we face, says Minister of Social Affairs Jakob Forssmed.
Olivia Wigzell will be the new interim director general at the Public Health Agency. A new regular director general will be recruited in an open application process according to standard procedures.
The government simultaneously appointed Charlotte Petri Gornitzka as the new governor of Gotland County. She thus ends as director general of MSB. Charlotte Petri Gornitzka's appointment as governor and head of the County Board in Gotland County is valid from and including 1 November 2024 until 31 December 2027.
– Charlotte Petri Gornitzka is an experienced authority manager. Her experiences with total defense issues will be an asset both for the county administrations and for the residents of Gotland County. I am happy that Charlotte Petri Gornitzka has accepted the assignment, says Minister of Civil Affairs Erik Slottner.
Charlotte Petri Gornitzka has, among other things, been secretary general of Save the Children's national association, International Save the Children, director general of Sida, chairman of the OECD aid committee and deputy director of UNICEF. Since 2021, she has been director-general of the Swedish Agency for Community Safety and Preparedness (MSB).
