SpaceX is working on spacecraft to safely crash ISS

SpaceX may develop a spacecraft for NASA that will safely and responsibly remove the International Space Station from its orbit around the Earth in 2030. The contract has a potential value of $843 million, NASA said.

The International Space Station, or ISS, will reach the end of its operational life in 2030, NASA says. By then, the space station must be removed from orbit in a controlled manner. The so-called U.S. The Orbit Vehicle, which SpaceX will make, will be attached to the ISS and then pull the space station out of orbit. The ISS is then towed towards Earth, after which the station largely burns up in the atmosphere. The remains must land in the Pacific Ocean, where they cannot cause any damage.

The ISS has been in space since 1998 and is managed by five space agencies: the Canadian Space Agency, the European Space Agency, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, the State Space Corporation Roscosmos and NASA. Various types of experiments are carried out on board, for example in the fields of biology, the human body and physics. In total, around 3300 experiments have already been carried out.
