On Wednesday afternoon Swedish time, Julian landed Assange in Australia.
Video clip shows how the Wikileaks founder hugs his father and his wife Stella at the airport. He raises one arm and makes a victory gesture in front of his supporters who have gathered at the scene.
The wife, Stella Assange, at a press conference thanked everyone who has helped to get Julian Assange released.
– Without your support, the political space would not exist to be able to free Julian, she said.
However, she asked journalists to respect the family's privacy and underlined that Assange needs time to recover.
The WikiLeaks founder has been released after reaching a settlement with the White House. He was sentenced on Wednesday by a court in the autonomous American archipelago of the Mariana Islands in the Pacific Ocean. The sentence was five years and two months in prison. As this corresponds to the time Assange has already been imprisoned in the UK, he is now a free man.
