Football club N.E.C. requires one-time FastID facial scan for season tickets

Supporters who want to purchase an N.E.C. season ticket are now required to do a one-time facial scan via FastID. In this way, the security app confirms the identity of a season ticket holder. Users can also enter the stadium with a facial scan.

Verifying identity when purchasing a season ticket is mandatory by the KNVB, the Nijmegen football club explains. Until now, this was possible with a scan of an ID, which was kept by the football club, but this would not be secure enough. In the meantime, all this data has been destroyed and N.E.C. that supporters with a physical or digital season ticket carry out identity verification via FastID.

According to the club, neither the scan nor an uploaded ID is stored by the company; FastID would only verify the user's identity and forward the confirmation to the club. The data is then destroyed and stored locally.

N.E.C. has been working with FastID for some time to give football supporters access to the Goffert Stadium through a facial scan. This is an optional functionality. According to De Gelderlander, around 800 supporters used this function last season.
